A visit to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society of Greece

Today we had the opportunity to visit Archelon-The Sea Turtle Preservation Society of Greece.  We learned many things about different types of turtles, and specifically the loggerhead turtle that lives along the coasts and islands of Greece.  This society aids in the rehabilitation of sick and injured turtles in Greece and other nearby countries.

In addition to learning many things about turtles, we were able to help the society out with a little service project for the kids.  They helped with weed pulling and general cleanup on the society grounds.

At the end of our visit, we were able to sing one of our songs for the volunteers in the center.  They were very moved by our performance and thankful for the help we provided to them.
After our visit, we walked through the town for a bite to eat. Many of us were very excited to find real ice at a burger place we ate at.  Most water and drinks in Greece are served without ice.

After lunch, it was time for a short cool down in the ocean nearby.

Later in the evening, we performed at a concert as special invited guests for a musical celebration.  We listened to a Greek Choir and then our students performed several songs.  At the end of our set, we were asked for an encore presentation.  We performed one more song to a very appreciative crowd.

A special highlight of the evening was the presence of several Greek high school students who were at the festival and anxious to meet with our students.  They all had a wonderful time getting to know one another and learning about each other's cultures.

When we arrived back to the hotel after 11pm, the kids were hungry again and became creative with their groceries bought the other day.  Here Jordan enjoys a Nutella sandwhich and Claire soaks her foot after stepping on a sea urchin earlier today.

  2. Wow! So much in one day! Why are the students looking so serious when Mr. Spencer is talking to them on the risers?
